As Albatros Informatics Cooperative, we are taking the first steps of cooperative in informatics in order to have a sustainable, democratic and fair working life.
For this alternative collective structure that we can establish together, we have adopted the principles of equality, horizontal hierarchy, collective functioning, consensus decision-making, fair income sharing, cooperativization, decentralization and solidarity. In this model, all individuals in the collective will be defined as workers and owners.
Creating the working order in any sector within the framework of these and similar values may seem far from reality to some of us, but the examples that will make those who read their experiences say “I wish” are working all over the world and they are not few in number. The transformation has already begun, international networks are being established!
Knowledge, labour, time.. When we knead them with organization and solidarity, the sprouts of the new order will emerge. If we are the producers, we think that we should be the ones who make the decision and the winners.
For many of us, working life means wasting years on a path with no clear goals. We consider ourselves lucky when we have the opportunity to work in a decent place and under acceptable conditions. In our 45-hour weekly work routine, 2-3 weeks of paid leave per year becomes our widest area of freedom.
We talk and criticize the taken for granted facts of working life such as unemployment, interviews, inadequate salary/raise, performance evaluation, insecurity, constantly making the employee feel inadequate, pressure, dismissal, retirement in the grave and so on, when we have the opportunity, but we do not draw / cannot draw a framework that will reveal the change. We want to get rid of the companies and corporate life in which we inevitably work, which deepen the alienation with analogies such as “we” and “family”, where we are unhappy as an employee.
We want to bring an alternative to working life in these conditions that are thought to be inevitable. Our aim is to establish commonality, solidarity and the working environment of the future! Not only profit-oriented, but in line with our abilities, collectively, according to the need to produce and solidarity!
We all have different talents and expertise. While we can take limited steps individually, we think that we can be more dynamic and productive with the collectives we will form in line with common goals. We believe that an organization can be established from the bottom up with the union-like structures that these collectives will form over time.
The healthy functioning and longevity of the central structures have never been under fair conditions. In recent years, especially in the IT sector, the concept of “decentralization”, which is at the forefront, has emerged from similar needs.
We have identified 8 basic principles that form the foundations of this alternative collective structure that we can establish together.
