When a group of resident partners in Olesa de Montserrat, who have been promoting the cooperative housing model in the municipality since 2018, detected a building that a private developer began to build years ago that – as a result of the 2008 real estate crisis – was halted, they did not hesitate.
This is how La Xicoira was born, a project with which we want to recover the private heritage that had been in the hands of a real estate fund, and fulfil the social function of housing from self-promotion with logic of common good and non-profit.
The building, located between Pau Casals and Colom stress, in the heart of the new municipality, has the structure, basements, exterior enclosures, roof, and much of the interior divisions already built.
At Sostre Civic, we promote a transformative model of access and tenure of housing that is based on the following principles and values:
– Non-profit and collaborative ownership collective
– Self-management and community
– Affordable and inclusive housing
– Replicability and social market
Sustainability – We work in the fight for the right to housing, with the intention of co-responsibility with the environment and link to the territory and we are committed to environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and the reduction of consumption.
Sostre Civic are committed to cooperative housing as an alternative to access housing, since it guarantees the right to housing in the long term and leaves the current mode that promotes private property as the majority regime of tenure. With the transfer of use, ownership of the property is collective and falls on the entity, and the members have the rights to live indefinitely.
