
History:
The National Association of Cooperatives of Chile, also called Cooperatives of Chile, is a third-degree integration entity of the Chilean cooperative sector, which has been established in June 2018, after a process of convergence of purposes and strategies on the part of its six founding organizations of the second degree, of a sectoral and multispectral nature of the agri-food sectors. savings and credit, rural electrification, housing and services, leaving the doors open for the incorporation of new cooperative organizations.
Cooperativas de Chile has a national presence because its member cooperatives are present in the 16 regions of the country and in its 345 communes, and represents almost 1.45 million members of the total of 1.8 million that the Chilean cooperative sector has.
Cooperativas de Chile seeks to establish the best level of collaboration and exchange relations at national and international level, both with public and private entities

Today the cooperative movement in Chile brings together more than 1480 cooperatives with more than 2
million members. Unlike what happens in other countries, there is not enough information to measure its economic and social impact at the national level and support public development policies.
Understanding the great importance of having this information, the Cooperative Forum designed a strategy to measure the impact of cooperatives through the development of a digital survey that plans for the year 2024 to collect background information on cooperatives of economic importance in the country and prepare a Statistical Yearbook of Cooperatives in Chile.
According to its statutes, the main objectives and purposes of Cooperativas de Chile are:
- Assume nationally and internationally the representation of the National Cooperative Movement
- Promote and defend the principles and values of cooperativism
- Work on strengthening the Cooperative sector and Cooperatives in Chile
- Promote the improvement of cooperative legislation in Chile and other legal bodies that contemplate rules which affect the cooperative sector
- Promote cooperative teaching in primary, secondary, special and university education and the research and study of cooperativism
- Promote the creation of Associations, Federations and Confederations and associations between cooperatives and entities of the social and solidarity economy, as a means to group, organize and integrate them into the confederation
- Ensure that equal treatment by the State and private entities is established and permitted in all social, economic and cultural activities of cooperatives, preventing discrimination in favor of groups or types of business.
- Integrate cooperative organizations at the international level
- Promote cooperative dissemination and education
- Protect the economic and social rights of cooperatives, federations, confederations or other entities related and integrated to the Confederation, to demand compliance with legal norms that benefit them or avoid new taxes imposed on them
